 Maharajah and Maharani of Jodhpur

Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha in 1459. He claimed to be a descendent of Lord Rama. Rao Jodha got the Mehrangarh fort built, around this fort grew the city of Jodhpur. A son of Rao Jodhanamed Bika founded the state of Bikaner.

The current Maharaja of Jodhpur is a highly educated gentleman who has turned many of the palaces in to hotels. One of the greatest palaces to be any where in the world in the 20th century the Umaid Bhawan Palace is now a hotel and part of it is still retained by the royal family.

In May 1998, a Rolls Royce car especially built for the Maharaja of Jodhpur for hunting was sold at an auction for a sum of 100,000 punds (GBP).
